How many guests do you accommodate at the lodge?

The lodge consists of 4 rooms, accommodating 8 adults (excluding children). Meals are served at the communal main lodge areas.

Yes, due to our remote location, please ensure that you communicate your requirements well in advance.

All non-alcoholic beverages to be purchased on site from our cash bar. At this stage, guests are welcome to bring their own alcoholic beverages as our liquor licence is being processed.

Yes, free of charge.

Collection is done at 13h30 at the Welgevonden Private Game Reserve East gate.

Please contact the lodge when you reach Vaalwater at: +27 (0)87 0926 727. Please note there is a gravel road of 8km. You will leave your car at the gate and the ranger will collect you and take you up to the lodge.

Collections after 4pm – R500.00.
Collections from 20h00 – R1000.00.
Please note the reserve gate closes at 22h00.
Early morning drop-offs prior to 7am – R500.

No, game drives occur collectively as a group; maximum 10 guests allowed.

No, your vehicle must be left at the Welgevonden East Gate.

No, Welgevonden is home to the Big 5 and should not be approached.

No, we are in a Malaria-free area.

Daily game drives take place in the mornings at 5:00 or 6:00 and in the afternoon at 15:00 or 16h00 and lasts approximately 2,5 – 3 hours. This may change due to weather and seasonal conditions. Breakfast is at 9:00 (dependent on game drive arrival), lunch 13h00, dinner 19h30. Please be on time and considered towards other guests on the group game drives and by respecting the times above.

Sunscreen, insect repellent (don’t worry too much – we are a malaria free area), hat, bathing suit, closed shoes when walking between chalets, warm clothing, reading material, binoculars. Cash / credit card for beverages or should you like to tip the staff.

Relax, you are in the bush, we recommend practical and comfortable clothing; no need to dress to impress. Please remember warm clothes such as scarves, gloves, beanies and jackets; especially in Winter (May – September). May we suggest earthy and neutral colours in order to blend in with nature.

Children are allowed but please contact us regarding our child policy and to check availability.

The climate of the Waterberg area can be described as warm temperate with three distinct seasons. From May to July it is dry with mean daily maximum and minimum temperatures of 22.3°C and 2.6°C respectively. Ground frosts occur regularly, particularly in low-lying areas. From August to October, daily temperatures begin to rise, with mean daily maximum and minimum temperatures of 27.6 °C and 8.6°C respectively, and although generally dry, occasional thunderstorms develop. The annual wet season extends from November to April, with mean daily maximum and minimum temperatures of 29.3°C and 14.5°C respectively.

This is a matter of personal choice but there is no good or bad time to visit.
